BACKGROUND OF KAMPUNG PANDAN, SEBAUH, BINTULU, SARAWAK, MALAYSIA.


Kampung Pandan of the Sebauh District is located 55 kilometers from Bintulu City. The village sits on the river banks of The Kemena River and Kuala Pandan River. Across the village, there lies a longhouse that belongs to the Punan tribe. The trip to reach Kampung Pandan takes one and a half hour from the city whether by river or road. Kampung Pandan is also known as Kampung Haji Johari to commemorate Pamanca Haji Johari on his major contributions to the village. On the early days of this village, there were seven heads of village who belong in the council under Headman Haji Sulaiman Rusan. Kampung Pandan now contains many basic facilities such as a school, a mosque, a community hall, running electric supply and a clean water source. Economic activities that are run by the villagers are obtaining rubber, palm oil, fishing, private and government sector related work. The villagers can be said to have embraced Islam as their official religion.

The roads and walkway are made of tar. Wooden walkways are also built in some areas as a preference.
  • 2.      Clean water
Villagers are also provided with clean water. The water comes from rain water that is kept in big tanks. The tank was provided by the village organization for all the villagers who is needed.
  • 3.      Electricity
Kampung Pandan is provided with electricity. The electricity comes from SESCO.
  • 4.      Education Centre
Kampung Pandan has one primary school which is SK Panan. In this school, there is also a kindergarten. The school also provides dorms for the students, having full day care for the students.
  • 5.      Jetty
Kampung Pandan has a jetty made of wood but needs modifications and repairs.

VILLAGERS’ ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES IN KAMPUNG PANDAN

For the economic activity of Kampung Pandan, the villagers work in a number of sectors. These sectors are:
  • 1.      Agriculture Sector

Rubber trees, Palm Oil and Paddy plant is planted in the village.
  • 2.      Farming Sector

In Kampung Pandan, there exists a chicken and a duck farm.
  • 3.      Business Sector

Kampung Pandan has small markets around the neighbourhood that sells everyday goods.

          KERIRING KAMPUNG PANDAN SEBAUH, MALAYSIA

     Keriring, Punan's historical heritage located in Kampung Pandan. This engraving is a vertically erected wooden carving used by the Punan's tribe to keep the bones of the dead ancient king. Together with the king, seven virgin girls were buried alive to accompany the king.

                                                    SK PANDAN (ELEMENTARY SCHOOL)

 SK Pandan is located 150 meters from the Kemena River Bank or 55 km from Bintulu Town. The school first opened in 1951 with the enrolment of 20 students and only 2 staff including the principal. The original name of SK Pandan is Pandan Lo al Authority Council which was managed by Bintulu Authority Council in 1974.
